Adult Companion Training

   Seasons for Growth Adult Programme

   The Seasons for Growth Adult Programme focuses on understanding and managing the particular losses experienced by participants.  It has 3 components;

  Component 1 gives a brief overview of the programme which may be useful as an information session for parents/carers

  Component 2 provides a short information workshop which may be useful as a staff information session

  Component 3 provides a small group programme focussing on managing particular losses   Component 3 provides a sound framework and safe learning environment for adults to explore issues in greater depth.  Different loss experiences may prompt adults to think of joining a group; bereavement, separation, divorce or a major life change which has impacted on their ability to cope.

Seasons for Growth is based on William Worden’s task centred approach to managing loss and change.  The link to the Seasons metaphor is explained at the group sessions.  The Adult Programme Component 3 is conducted in small peer groups of 4-10 participants normally over 4 sessions facilitated by trained Companions.  Each session explores a different season and the challenges and the tasks related to that season.  The sessions are not counselling sessions but are supportive in a group setting.

In small confidential groups participants share their stories with one another, helping to normalise their experiences.  Through discussion, journaling and private reflection, they connect with one another in ways that build understanding and decrease isolation.  For further information on the adult programme and research in Australia see http://www.goodgrief.org.au/
