National Co-ordinator for Seasons for Growth Programme in Scotland
Kate MacLeod – National Co-ordinator
Kate’s post, within the Notre Dame Centre, is funded by the Scottish Government to 2011 to develop training and support for Seasons for Growth throughout Scotland. Now half way through the project, Seasons Trainers have increased the number of trained Companions by over 500 with 50 Companions now equipped to Companion Adult Groups. We have 20 trainers in place throughout Scotland and there has been an upsurge of interest in the East and North East of Scotland where local authorities have learned of the positive benefits of the Seasons programme and been prepared to fund training and support.
Reconnectors, bi-annual conferences for Companions and local network groups offer regular opportunities for Companions to learn about new developments, make links and follow up ideas to enhance the delivery of the programme to children and young people. We now have a DVD, made possible through funding by More Choices More Chances in Inverclyde, which can be used to inform staff, parents and young people about the benefits of attending a Seasons Group.
SQA approval for Seasons training and group implementation is about to be credit rated and we hope Scotland will feature in some international research being undertaken by Good Grief Australia. Seasons for Growth also features in a new edition of the widely respected publication Brief Interventions with Bereaved Children by Barbara Monroe and Frances Kraus ISBN 978-0-19-956164-3.
Kate welcomes any feedback and group evaluations from Companions about their experiences of using Seasons for Growth, Kate can be contacted at kate.macLeod@notredamecentre.org.uk
